Christiaan and Hanrie took the helm of Dragonfly in March of 2017. Christiaan and Hanrie are both from South Africa and have worked on vessels around the world, but once they laid eyes on the BVI, they knew they were going to stay for quite some time.
Your Captain, Christiaan Liebenberg, has been living and been working in the BVI for the past three years and has explored, snorkeled and swam almost every nook and cranny of the islands, discovering some hidden treasures not many know about, that he loves to share with his guests.
Christiaan grew up in the coastal town of Jeffrey’s Bay in South Africa surfing, boating diving and exploring all things in and below the ocean. Christiaan has been sailing most of his life and has more than 20 000 miles logged on all types of vessels all over the world: from the Indian and Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean and Caribbean seas. He has also pursued music as a career in his life and with his love of pirate history and stories, he might pull out the guitar and serenade you with pirate songs and icy cocktails.
Hanrie grew up in the mountains in a very small town in South Africa and always dreamt of faraway places. After finishing her Degree in photography and Journalism she set out to explore the world and lived in Bangkok for a few years, traveling Asia, and fell in love with the sights, smells and of course the food. Always cooking up a new dish learned in some foreign place on holiday, much to her family’s delight. After two years abroad she returned home to work as a journalist and spent weekends and days of playing around in her Father’s restaurants and coming up with new menu ideas. After too many years living on land Christiaan inspired her to move back to the ocean and work on boats. Hanrie ended up working on a Superyacht in New York, and after a year and a half moved down to the BVI to live out her dreams of being a chef.
Hanrie has a passion for cooking a diverse and interesting array of food, taking care to match dishes to each group’s specific needs and desires. From traditional South African dishes, Caribbean favourites,Thai, French and everything in between. You will be sure to leave satisfied.
Christiaan and Hanrie are outgoing and fun loving with a passion for people and swapping stories and tales, and with their knowledge and love of the BVI you are sure to have an amazing holiday and stumble upon a few secluded treasures along the way.
